The next generation of content creators may never have to know the feeling of deep diving through the web for that perfect, royalty-free beat for their videos.Adobe has teased its prototype Project Music GenAI Control tool, which allows users to create music using text prompts and edit it within the tool itself. That last part is important, too - while Google and Meta have already introduced similar tools, Adobe is the first to allow users to edit the outputs versus continually creating new ones until they get what they want.It will be interesting to see how tools like these affect the larger music landscape. In the mid-2010s, music-sharing platforms like Soundcloud and the ability to produce studio-quality records in one's own bedroom broke down barriers to entry into the music industry, giving us many of the biggest artists we know today. Perhaps tools like these could lead to another wave of artists or just some really bad music. I'm guessing it will be somewhere in between. #AI #music #technology

Want the best chance of ranking well in search engines? Here's my number one tip...Create content that your readers actually want to read. Think about what your audience needs to know and how you can help them know it, and then write your content in a readable and enjoyable way. Even as it has been developing its AI offerings, Google has maintained that it will prioritize human-centric content over that created by machines. This move from Google is a big part of that, with the company noting that it has reduced unhelpful content by 40%.Specifically, the search engine is downranking content created at scale (creating thousands of low-quality articles each day), sites that abuse their high authority by renting out part of their site for spam content, and expired domain abuse, which is when folks buy high-authority, expired domains and fill them with bad content.Remember, at the end of the day, people only use Google when they get good results. Help the search engine out by creating helpful, readable, enjoyable content and you'll likely see your efforts rewarded by elevated rankings and traffic.#SEO #Google #contentcreation

Over the last few years, Fortnite has gone from being just another game to becoming a cultural juggernaut. If you haven't played it yet or kept up on all that's going on in the game, now's your chance to take notice.Just this year, Fortnite's creators, Epic Games, have inked deals with Lego and Disney, are now taking on Roblox with their Lego Fortnite offering, and have added Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival modes. As this great article from The Wall Street Journal notes, it has become one of the go-to venues for artists like Eminem, Travis Scott, Lady Gaga, and more to debut new music and reach a broad audience. While much of the music discovery conversation has been focused on TikTok and Spotify in recent years, many artists and, more notably, their labels are choosing to cast their dice with Fortnite, inking deals for exclusive debuts and in-game concerts as well as even allowing their likeness to be in the game as purchasable character skins. All in all, this year has shown that major brands are taking notice of the power of Fortnite and, by extension, video games to reach increasingly broad, diverse audiences and create partnerships that feel natural and make a profit.

This is such an exciting way to kick off Women’s History Month and celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday! I can’t wait to check out the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum’s first digital exhibit, Becoming Visible, launching this Friday. It’s time to confront how women’s histories have been recorded, remembered, lost and discovered throughout U.S. history. This is the perfect opportunity to do so and a great example of how great digital experiences can make history more accessible to all.

Facebook is officially hopping out of the news game. In early April, the platform will be removing its news tab, reflecting a move that the company has already taken in Canada, the UK, France, and GermanyWhy is this happening? Money and shifting user preferences. For one, some countries like Canada have recently introduced laws requiring social media platforms to pay content fees to domestic media outlets. Facebook's multi-million dollar deals with U.S. publishers such as the New York Times and CNN are already over. Additionally, user preferences have clearly shifted towards short-form video in recent years, as evidenced by the rise of TikTok and the success of Instagram's Reels. Users just aren't as interested in long-form news content on social media as they have been in the past. In fact, Facebook has said that news content now makes up only "3 percent of what people around the world see in their Facebook feed." These two factors seem to have led Facebook and its parent company, Meta to one conclusion. The juice just isn't worth the squeeze when it comes to news content on Facebook. Now, the company will look to dive even further into working on short-form video on the platform and capture some of the users who may have left the platform for alternatives like TikTok.#socialmedia #facebook #news

Saw this interesting thread from the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri. It's a friendly reminder that everyone uses social media differently, even with the same features and options. There's no doubt about it: how most of us use social media has changed over time. In recent years, we've seen a major shift where users are using their feeds more for entertainment than interacting, shifting conversations that may once have happened in the comment section to group chats and even other platforms. Perhaps we'll soon see the return of the Finsta, a friends-only Instagram account for sharing content in a more private way - something that many folks my age might remember from their high school days. One thing is for certain: things are changing on social media. It's up to us to understand our audiences and how they're changing, too!#socialmedia #strategy

The brands that have shaped our digital media landscape are dying.Vice, which was valued at $5.6 billion just six years ago announced this week that it was filing for bankruptcy and would stop publishing on their website.Buzzfeed has sold Complex, a major brand in pop-culture (especially hip hop and streetwear) to a shopping platform and laid off 16% of its staff. For any music fans, you may also have noticed that Pitchfork was also folded into GQ by Condé Nast. Each of these brands changed how we consume and interact with content online. Vice and Buzzfeed completely shifted user expectations around what’s covered in the news, how it’s covered, and how content is consumed online.Complex and Pitchfork both shaped the entertainment landscape, creating wildly successful cultural staples like Hot Ones and documenting the intersection of culture and the internet. There’s no doubt that all of these brands will live on in some form, but their days of cultural dominance are likely behind them.#digitalmedia #news

Reddit is about to have one of the most-talked-about IPOs of the year, and while this would be newsworthy in and of itself, what's even more interesting is how they're using it to reward power users. If you're unfamiliar with the platform, Reddit is a network of communities or subreddits focused on topics of interest. There can be subreddits for general interest topics like news, places in the world like Chicago, or niche interests like Pixel Art. The common thread among all of these, though, is that most of them are managed by volunteer moderators who are also community members. Much of the user experience in each of these subreddits is dictated by their volunteer work.Reddit knows this and, in a unique move, is looking to reward many of its top community members by allowing them the chance to buy shares in its IPO - an opportunity that is typically reserved for professional investors. While we've seen other platforms make moves to reward creators more for their work, this is a unique example, and one that we may see in future IPOs, especially looking toward a potential Discord IPO sometime in the near future.#reddit #socialmedia

When it comes to wearables, comfort is king - and key to mass adoption. No one wants to wear something that makes them sweat, that they constantly have to adjust, or that makes their back hurt. This is the biggest challenge facing wearables like the Apple Vision Pro and Meta's Oculus Quest - besides price, of course. On top of making it generally comfortable, these wearables also wade into a variety of accessibility challenges that other pieces of tech may not have to consider as heavily. It will be interesting to see how different companies approach this challenge. So far, Meta has partnered with Ray Ban, a leader in making glasses. This ideally allows both companies to get the best of both worlds - with Meta learning from Ray Ban's experience creating high-quality glasses and Ray Ban attaching itself to Meta's technology.#applevisionpro #wearabletech #virtualreality
